The Sir Albert Sakzewski Virus Research Centre (SASVRC) and the University of Queensland (UQ) have enjoyed a close association for many years. The association is of mutual benefit, as the Centre is dependent on a supply of graduate students and the University is assured that these students will receive a comprehensive training. Several staff members in the Centre have joint or adjunct appointments in the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences and this permits these individuals to supervise post-graduate students.
In late 1998, SASVRC was granted status as a Category 4 Centre in the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences, UQ, thus strengthening the ties between the two organisations. The new Category 4 Centre was called the Clinical Medical Virology Centre.
Undergraduate teaching
Several members of the SASVRC staff hold adjunct appointments with the UQ, and participate in undergraduate teaching as guest lecturers.
Post graduate teaching
SASVRC staff supervise a number of post-graduate students. All PhD students are enrolled with the UQ, but we now have Honours students from Qld University of Technology, Griffith University and UQ. The SASVRC PhD Standing Committee oversees and monitors the progress of all postgraduate students. |
