GROUP LEADER in VIROLOGY
FACULTY OF SCIENCE/CLINICAL MEDICAL VIROLOGY CENTRE at SIR ALBERT SAKZEWSKI VIRUS RESEARCH CENTRE

SASVRC is a QHealth supported research centre of the Children’s Health Services, incorporating the UQ Clinical Medical Virology Centre of the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences, Faculty of Science.
The Faculty of Science unites the disciplines of agriculture and animals, biomedical and biological sciences, chemistry, earth sciences, food sciences, geography, marine science, maths and physics, planning, the environment and veterinary science. The units within the Faculty of Science are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work.   http://www.science.uq.edu.au

The role
An opportunity has arisen for an established researcher to establish a new research group in an area related to childhood virology.  Applicants will have a background in virology/immunobiology (eg Molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, pathogenesis or epidemiology;  hold a PhD in an appropriate field and have at least five years postdoctoral experience; is likely to hold independent competitively awarded research funding.
While the appointee will be a UQ employee enjoying all the interaction within academia and the UQ research community, he/she will work within the milieu of a teaching hospital Children’s Health Service, Herston adjacent to Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, UQCCR, QIMR, QCMRI UQ Medical and Dental School.

Remuneration
The remuneration package will be in the range of $97,829.59-112,803.29(Level C) or $117,794.52-$129,773.92(Level D), plus superannuation contributions of 17%.  A start-up sum, and assistance with relocation expenses will be available.  A package involving clinical practice may be available to a medically qualified appointee.   This is a full time 4 year renewable appointment at Senior or Principal Research Fellow level (C/D).

SASVRC HONOURS STUDENTSHIPS (2)

The Sir Albert Sakzewski Virus Research Centre will award two Honours Scholarships valued at $5,000 each, tenable during the academic year. Applicants will have a degree in life science preferably with a microbiology, biochemistry, virology or immunology component, and will register for a Honours degree at their present University. Applicants are advised to read the list of Honours projects available.
